Hi, I’m Sonja oder better known as Kurzi or Shortriver and I’m from Bremen/Germany.
I have been drawing since my early childhood and am enjoying it ever since.
I am working in a small advertising agency, doing mostly promotions and print ads for a living.
In my free time I try to illustrate a lot and design t-shirts and posters which I hopefully will be able to sell by myself in the near future. And I’m also doing design commissions, so contact me if you like :)
Dream of Freedom is an approach to show that animals are not to be held for human attraction, but are living beings which deserve their freedom and we should respect that.

This shirt makes me a saaad paaaaandah

to be fair, they aren’t the smartest animals. they have a hard enough time trying to even figure out what to mate with, let alone realize they’re even in a zoo. i don’t think they would mind
BuckwildWill
cool shirt though, for real. and i still think pandas are cool, despite their lack of intelligence
Neil
is that Panda holding several shivs?
Kurzi Shortriver
Thanks BuckwildWill. The panda stands synonymously for different animals not only to be held in zoos (where the conditions are good in many cases) but for mere human profit and/or attraction.
Neil, if those were shivs he’d be probably free already ;)
They’re just some sticks to draw on the floor with.
And of course, thank you RIPT for printing one of my designs again! :D

This one is very, very nice! but very, very sad too :( Poor pandas, I wish they all could Kung Fu fight like the one in the movie, they would kickass their way out of Zoos :D
Awesome style Kurzi! congrats on the print. RIPT, this one looks great :)
Kurzi Shortriver
Thank you very much for your kind words D4N13L!

I love how you can really see the detail in the background graphic.

I love this shirt!!
I know this is kind of off topic, but I’m new to this site and was wondering if ript has an end of the month grab bag like teefury does. There have been lots of cool shirts in the past month that I would like to get.

Very well done, Kurzi Shortriver. I love the bars-turned-trees images on the floor. I am anti-zoos as well. I could be wrong, but in the case of the pandas, I’m pretty sure there are efforts to increase the population of these critters by working with them in man made facilities, which I applaud.
Kurzi Shortriver
Hey, thank you so much for all your nice comments!
And thanks The JCW for the praise on my work in general. Means a lot from you.
Redeye, I share your opinion on that point.
The design, although I chose the panda as a motif is aimed at animal keeping in general, where the main interest i just profit without caring for the interest of the animals.
I think the zoos are the lesser evil in this case, with some taking pretty good care of their inhabitants. But I personally wouldn’t support them though.
I’m really glad you like the shirt and left such great feedback!

Um… Aren’t zoo’s the main reason the panda population is thriving as well as it is. Last I heard they were pretty darn close to being extinct, and many zoos around the world are enlisting breeding programs to keep them reproducing. I think it would be really wonderful if we could all live in your world where pandas are thriving and zoos do not exist but….. I don’t really see that happening anytime soon, And to feel the need to taint a place that is teaching Our younger generations to respect animals and nature just seems kinda lame. And I don’t work for a zoo, I’m not a hippie or a hipster. I just felt like I wanted to say something. The artwork is thought provoking, and I suppose that is what it’s all about in the end.
