Matthew Justin Rupp is a twenty-one year old student hailing from the township of Vernon, New Jersey. Currently, he resides just outside of Charlotte, North Carolina. He is presently enrolled at Gaston College and is working towards his Associates Degree of Fine Arts. He plans to further his scholastic endeavors by studying at the University of North Carolina at Charlotte where he will earn his Bachelors of Fine Arts. He is a diligent and innovative student who takes full advantage of his studies to both evolve and to refine his artistic craft.
Matthew’s art is delightfully original in the sense that it often characterizes a very simple yet poignant message that is portrayed through a symphony of visually tantalizing patterns and lively color. One might describe his compositions as “Intricate Simplicity”. He considers his genre to be a combination of Abstract and Expressionist styles with many elements of Pop Art and Symbolism that are also prevalent throughout various pieces. His artistic medium is acrylic although beyond the canvas, Matthew has also worked with paper, cardboard, wood, and leather. Other artistic mediums Matthew has used to express his expansive creativity include photography, clothing design and, web page design. He draws conceptual inspiration from the spirit and tones of nature as well as the complex social and cultural movements of today and of decades past. He also finds inspiration in music and lyrics as well as films, ancient symbols and a plethora of entities from both the Earth and bey ond the stars. In essence, Matthew has a unique talent and perspective that elevates his creations beyond the typical work of art.
