Welcome back to RIPT Apparel. What’s new in the world of Yawn?
Hey, thanks for printing us again! Not so much right now, we both have a new freelance job in some agency which takes away time to make our own stuff. So we haven’t done a lot new stuff but we have some ideas :)
Yawn is a duo, like Batman and Robin or macaroni and cheese. What’s the best part of working together? What’s the most frustrating?
The best thing is that you always have somebody to show your work to and you can expect an honest opinion. Well, we usually like/hate the same stuff, so maybe that’s not soooo much of an advantage. It’s also nice sitting on the same table and working on something (But this can be annoying too, haha!) It’s really great though when the other one makes something you like so much that you want to grab it and add to it :)
How do you know when a design is finished?
When you’ve looked at it on different days and don’t find anything else to add. Or in our case, when you’ve sent it to the other one and she says “Yep, it’s done!” ;)
What are some subjects you revisit frequently in your art?
Most of our stuff is pop culture and/or music or fashion related. We both love to draw boys and hate to draw girls… well, not hate… but we just like to draw boys more! We also love to draw up our own type (we work on some typefaces right now aswell!) and clean fresh colors!
Do you find it hard to balance making art and making money?
Yes, right now we live on it, but we are far from rich so buy this shirt now ;)

I’ve gotta be honest.. I don’t really like it. The color scheme is okay – but I simply look bad in that color.
The graphics are crisp and nicely detailed and bring the subject into focus but it’s still a bit clip-art-y to me. a bit to busy.
heck, I would be happy with a color like light blue for the shirt and then the rocket popsicle centered with the deeper red, white and blue on it. I feel badly for being a nay-sayer but also have to be honest.

Ditto @rabidtotoro. I think it’s a bit too busy, and it seems lazily put together. Just a bunch of things in rows.
