RIPT: Please tell us about your art:
After recently re-watching 2001:A Space Odyssey, I was inspired to pay homage. I love Kubrick’s films so expect to see more tees based on them from me.
RIPT: Before starting a new design, what’s the most important thing for an artist to consider?
It really depends on why the artist making the design. For me, I like to make shirts for myself. So when I’m coming up with concepts, if it is something I don’t think I’d wear, I usually don’t pursue the idea. As far as making the design goes, reducing the amount of colors is always in the back of my head.
RIPT: Do your designs start with pencil on paper or straight on the computer?
I like to sketch things out on paper usually, but it’s rare that I scan my art. I’m a big fan of creating digitally because there is no waste and it is always easier to fix mistakes.
RIPT: How do you know when a design is finished?
I struggle with this all the time. Sometimes, I just get a good feeling about a design. Other times I get really stuck. In those situations my wife, Candace, is also a great help. She’s not afraid to voice her opinion about my designs. I also get a ton of feedback from the RIPT Artists on Facebook.
RIPT: Where do you go for inspiration?
I like to watch a lot of movies so that helps. I find another great way to get inspired on the web is Tumblr. I follow a lot of art blogs, movie blogs, photography blogs and so on. It’s becomes a constant stream of inspiration if you follow the right niche blogs.
RIPT: Please name some of your favorite music.
I really dig ambient stuff. I love Bonobo, Nujabes, Flying Lotus, Air, Bibio, Caribou. I also really like listening to Original Soundtracks. I’ve been playing TRON and Inception OST’s lately.

At 1st I thought it was a crying red android or such, but then I realized what I thought were eyes & tears were the top of Dave’s helmet. Really like the design but I keep seeing a crying red figure.
