Um… I get it, mixing Serenity with Breakfast Club, you had to get the genders and personalities right… but no Serenity “group photo” looks right without Zoe and Kaylee.

Um, wth Wash and Kaylee aren’t on this? :/ Bummer. Not a buy I’m afraid.

Everyone isn’t there! Zoe, Kaylee, Wash…any of these names ringin any bells? I would have bought if it included the whole crew.

It’s a nice design. I don’t mind that characters are missing; it wouldn’t work as a Breakfast Club mashup if you threw in an extra three people.

This is a cute idea and I love Firefly, but I can’t buy this when half of the cast is missing.
Plus, Kaylee is my favorite! =(

Got all excited about serenity! Then I saw the shirt… Missing characters and honestly those faces are just odd enough to scare me. Cute, but I will wait however many months it takes for the NEXT Firefly shirt to appear :(

This is pretty rough. Neat concept, weak technique. Artist needs to work on technique especially in the faces and even more particular the eyes. Arms are inconsistent also.

I generally despise mashups, mainly because they generally don’t make sense. And aren’t funny. This one I dig. The character choices could not be better. (Other than forcing me to envisioning a Mal/River ending to match Andy and Allison. That’d be a bit weird).

Bought, by the way.

As an aside, I’ll be first to buy when (note the “when” rather than “if” ;) ) you do a follow up of Jayne as Bender, cunning hat on and fist held high on a football field. I would almost want Vera in there, but it would detract from the pose, methinks.

As a post script, I don’t understand the hate for not having the whole crew. I’m all about Kaylee, too. In a manner others might consider unsettling with regards to a fictional character. But, this concept NEEDS to not have her. Just think of this as taking place at a time when Kaylee and Zoe are out purchasing a certain white dress.

Sorry, but design doesn’t do it for me and also the white shirt is a no-go. But love Serenity, so maybe you’ll have other designs up?

Most of the ‘hate’ seems to be coming from people like me, who love Firefly but aren’t familar with The Breakfast Club. Because I was right there with them wondering where half the crew was and completely not catching the Breakfast Club reference until I read other comments pointing it out.

That about the Shepherd? Nobody’s complaining that he’s not on the shirt!

It was a tough call, but I had to make it a direct reference to The Breakfast Club poster, which is five characters. I thought about shoehorning more characters in, but I needed to stay true to the iconic original.

Inara as the Beauty
Mal as the Jock
Jayne as the Bully
Simon as the Nerd
River as the Creepy Girl

And for those commenting on the style, it’s just how I work. I’m not trying to fool anyone into thinking I’m going for pure portraiture here. :) Look at the rest of my work, it’s also stuck somewhere between realism and cartoon.

Sorry, but even though I got the Breakfast Club ref, this doesn’t work for me. (And, how, exactly, do some people equate criticism with ‘hate’?)

You have to be able to distinguish different levels of criticism if you’re going to whine about someone being offended by the way they are being criticize. I’m not a Firefly nut, but I did enjoy the show. The Breakfast Club has the same types of die hard lovers, however it was actually mainstream. To say the artist needs more characters is completely ignorant of the concept and therefore an invaluable criticism. To say the artist lacks facial design and other similar critiques fail just as miserable as the artist made it clear as day she does caricatures not real life duplicates.

I think the artist does a great Job in her cinematic comparisons.

I think the critics should learn how deliver thought provoking criticism if they don’t want their words to be perceived as hate.

As I read the comments, all I was thinking was how harsh these ignoramouses are, but hey, that’s what happens with blogs these days, everyone thinks they’re an expert but don’t have a clue about “serenity.”

Really love the idea! Unfortunately, Kaylee is my favorite character and I can’t buy a Firefly product that does not include her. I’m sorry!

I love Firefly, but just like the others I cannot justify a shirt with missing characters for the sake of any movie.

@Vera_Kozya I believe what @Blaidd Drwg was getting at is that if you asked a Firefly fan that question, the answer would be “no”. As in, they would prefer anyone BUT Inara.
