Where are you from?
I’m from Buffalo, NY
What inspired you to be an artist?
I’ve always had it in me. I’m always doodling, or sketching, or coming up with ideas of something to sketch and design.
Who are some of your favorite artists?
Oh god, how do you answer this question? I am crazy for Jackson Pollock, Chuck Close and Vincent Van Gough. But if we’re talking more contemporary, I love work by Paul Frank and McBess.
Tell us about your shirt
I wanted to use white ink on a black shirt much like one would scratch an image into a scratch board. I’m crazy for octopus’, (octopai?) I even have an octopus drinking beer and eating sushi that I drew tattooed on my back shoulder (see avatar pic.) Any way, who doesn’t love cephalopods, pirates and skulls? Right?

I’ll be on the message boards all day from work if any of you guys wanna chit chat. If you got a moment, go to my website, scroll down through the articles and check out the other Octo-Shirt I designed last week titled “It Would Be Epic If” I think some of you guys would get a chuckle out of it.
uniique
nice crosshatch/etching style looks great on blk!
and thusly jack sparrow was met his fate.. then found himself on a beach and rescued by his mates out from the other side ;)

LOL Jack Sparrow. I’d love to come up with some story behind this skull. I wonder if it’s going in the Octopus’ garden?
I had this idea I had been sketching on of an Octopus in it’s garden, and it’s garden consisting of Beatles references, (Abbey road sign etc) and even having a yellow submarine.I always thought that would be funny and cute. Would it satiate the pop culture references? I dunno. What do you guys think? I don’t want to be typecast as the octopus guy.
Also, I’d love to do a Pirates vs. Ninja shirt in the theme of Alien Vs. Predator. I’m a fan of the pirates myself.
Xao
It has some weird “oldshool-freshness” about it. Love it!

Oh yeah I almost forgot… I wanted to tell you awesome message board people to checkout my sketchbook/blog at http://apsketches.blogspot.com! Check out my gallery for my other works, though I haven’t updated it in a few weeks. In any case, drop on by!

I’ve seen that Octopus picture before: http://www.nal.usda.gov/awic/images/octopus.gif
Looks like all he did was trace and add a skull. Maybe give credit next time?

I’ll talk about it. I originally did this drawing for a Woot! Derby. It was my first ever such entry into any kind of online tee-design contest. I use photos as references for most of the stuff I use. Usually, I use several from different angles and pick and choose what details I like to use. I think an artist has to do this when attempting any kind of realism. In this instance, I definitely used that particular image in conjunction with a couple of others. I really loved the angle and eye level of that particular pic and in retrospect I followed it way too closely. This indeed is embarrassing and I feel bad about it. I think it would have been smart of me to move the tentacles in different contortions. Most people like to draw the tentacles of an octopus where as I really love their faces… something about how alien they appear.
In the case of this piece http://3.bp.blogspot.com/_hFEFfw3F_50/TTuss3pOuSI/AAAAAAAAAZg/luAYrCgKVrc/s1600/Final-Design-Detail-For-Blog.jpg I used a ton of photo references to figure out exactly how the piece should be composed. I picked and choose from several different references to get the piece exactly how I liked it. Visit my blog http://apsketches.blogspot.com and visit my gallery on the blog and see that I don’t blatantly steal work.
In the case of this piece, I admit I followed 1 particular reference far too closely. This is a mistake I will not be making in the future. Since this derby was about using 1 color only and crosshatching, for me, the piece was really about the technique involved rather than the image as a whole. I really wanted to go about it like one would a scratch board illustration, and in that case, I think I was successful.

@AP Sketches: I appreciate your veracity, but I am unfortunately not going to buy because of the situation. Again, absolute respect for being so honest about it.
